The Design Process: Paris

Friday Sep 19 2014

Every season we visit Paris to meet with our lace and fabric suppliers, seek new inspiration for upcoming designs, and find new materials to craft our luxury lingerie with.

This season was no exception, and we returned from our visit brimming with new ideas and inspiration, with some delicious new samples ordered for delicate new lace designs, sumptuously rich embroideries, and some very interesting new trimmings. Not everything will make it into future collections, but it's certainly inspiring to have such an abundance of beautiful things to choose from.

We already have a trusted silk supplier we have used for all of our collections so far, who have also created several custom dyed shades for us alongside their stunning palette of neutrals, but our Paris visit is always the perfect opportunity to find all of the details that make our garments that little bit extra special.

Creating full bust lingerie poses its own challenges, not only with ensuring materials are suitable for the greater weight of a larger cup size, but also that the pattern detailing will evenly distribute across all of our 25 individual sizes. If a lace only has a very narrow pattern along the edge, it will be lost once it gets to 38G for example - and conversely a very large repeat will look out of proportion on a 30DD!

During our appointments we're not able to take photographs, but we did manage a snap of our late morning champagne break with our good friend Kaaren, the designer behind exquisite luxury nightwear brand Layneau, as we met to swap lace stories and catch up, and our delicious lunch from our favourite spot, Fauchon! As for seeing the things we chose, well, you'll just have to wait for AW15, but we promise it will be more than worth the wait...
